I love this time of year. With the time change behind us and spring approaching, there’s new energy in the air. Can you feel it?
Last night at my yoga class, the instructor was talking about how our bodies change with the seasons. In the dark, cold winter days, our bodies tend to feel heavier and we crave heartier foods. As the daylight increases, fresher foods become available and we tend to crave lighter, fresher meals. She then asked us a question: what is your spring body like?
This got me thinking. In our appearance-obsessed culture, most of us would interpret this question as “what does your ‘spring body’ look like”? I’m all for being fit and taking care of my body, but looks aren’t the only consideration.
When it comes to my body, I’m far more concerned about what my body feels like. For example:
- Is there tightness, soreness, or pain in my body? If so, what is this telling me?
- Does my body feel energetic? If not, do I need more rest/sleep?
- Does my mind feel tense and anxious? What are my thoughts telling me?
- Does my heart feel happy, light, and open? Or heavy and closed? What are my emotions telling me?
So that is my question for you today. What does your ‘spring body’ feel like? What will you do this season to take care of yourself and practice your best self-care?
P.S. If this topic of practicing better self-care interests you, I highly recommend the book The Art of Extreme Self-Care by Cheryl Richardson. (This book changed my life!)
Take care,
