Sun Basket: Healthy Cooking Made Easy

In the five and a half years I’ve been writing this blog and in the 10+ years I’ve been cooking, I never thought I’d be subscribing to a meal delivery service. But apparently, one should never say never (wink, wink).

A few months ago I shared a review of Sun Basket here on the blog and featured their meals in a giveaway. I already knew I was excited about their service, but it was amazing to see your excitement as well!

Now that we’re into fall and the days are somehow getting shorter while the to-do lists get longer (anyone else relate?) I wanted to share another post about Sun Basket. In the 3+ months I’ve been using their service, I’ve found that it’s one of the best ways to get more fresh, healthy food into my diet while also cutting back time and energy spent meal planning, shopping, and prepping ingredients.

And, please note, this isn’t a sponsored post. I’m sharing this with you because I really do love these guys.

First of all, what is Sun Basket?

Sun Basket is a weekly delivery of fresh, pre-measured ingredients and recipes to make 3 meals. All ingredients come from West Coast farms and are non-GMO, pesticide-free, hormone-free and certified organic whenever possible.

How does it work?

You can select a meal plan or choose your meals each week. Sun Basket has a variety of options, including Vegetarian, Paleo, and Gluten-Free. Delivery is FREE to your home or office and Sun Basket currently delivers to CA, OR, WA, NV, CO, ID, AZ and UT. You can skip a week or cancel at any time and the boxes are packed to stay fresh for 8 hours after delivery.

Each week, you simply log into your Sun Basket account and pick the meals you want. Below you can see a screen shot from my account for this week. They’ll email you a reminder to customize your menu and if you don’t customize it that week, it will default to the menu plan you selected.

Some weeks when I know I have a lot of evening meetings or social events, I might decide to skip my Sun Basket delivery for the week. It’s really simple to skip or cancel the delivery and just requires the click of a button – no fees required! (I love that!)

Why I LOVE Sun Basket:

  • I LOVE that Sun Basket helps busy individuals and families get farm-fresh food on the table while saving time and saving money.
  • You’re not going to have to worry about menu planning, grocery shopping, tracking down recipes (although I hope you still come visit this blog!) or losing money by wasting produce with this service.
  • Sun Basket meals are extremely nutrient-dense and use fresh, local organic produce, high-quality protein and good fats, with minimal added sugar. Depending on your nutritional needs, you can pick your own menu (although, please note that if you have serious food allergies, Sun Basket may not work well for you).
  • Meals cost $11.49 per person, which is much cheaper than take-out and is actually a great deal when you consider the quality of the ingredients and the fact that it’s being delivered directly to you.
  • The packaging is also 100% recyclable and you can even return it – for free – so it can be reused!
  • The food!!! Their meals are delicious and I love the creative recipes that Chef Justine comes up with! I’ve been saving all of my recipe cards so I can use these meal ideas in the future as well.

I’m sure it probably seems strange to be a food blogger who uses a service like this, but I’ve found that even getting a box once or twice a month really helps reduce my stress level during busy weeks. And, the added bonus for you is that I’ve found these recipes get me thinking outside of my comfort zone when it comes to my own cooking so I have more creative inspiration to bring to you here on the blog.

I really believe in Sun Basket’s service and I think you’re going to love it as well. If you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, you can get more information here.

Hope you have a healthy & happy fall!
